Great answers to Rick's questions about making plant-based lifestyle changes. Preparing your own food is time well spent.

I was expecting the hot flashes, which were no fun, but my god the joint pain was a surprise – utterly staggering. Fortunately my doc was ok with putting me on HRT because I follow a plant based diet and have low cholesterol, etc.

    Dr. Newman is quite lovable.
I believe the study on HRT may have come out even a bit earlier, because around 2000 my doctor was poised to start me on HRT, and then completely changed her mind and mine, because of the new information surrounding it, so I never got it.
I probably missed out on a lot of beneficial effects.

It is quite the opposite. Plant-based diet disrupts hormones. I am speaking as an ex-vegan.

Thanks for the show.. Its kinda crazy that we as humans still cant agree on what i best for humans to eat.. I guess we just have to go by our own subjective opinions about the subject.

I have uterine fibroids and they bleed when I fall off my wfpb diet and eat meat. Eggs Cheese dose not affect them red meat chicken fish does really bad but I added organic soy milk to my diet and it set my fibroids off really bad just within 2 weeks. I took it out and after 12 weeks the bleeding stopped. I've experimented with diet and it takes around 12 weeks of stopping the offending foods going vegan or slightly vegetarian (eggs cheese only) to stop the bleeding. I've been doing this for years because dr won't remove fibroids will only do total hysterectomy because I'm no longer child baring age! Not wanting to lose an entire body part I've had to do it with food. I wish I could eat drink organic soya then I'd stay vegan but because it causeing fibroid bleeding I tend to eat cheese and eggs. Cheese apparently has a chemical in it which blocks the fibroids uptake of estrogen. Fibroids are painful and mine bled 24/7 completely flooding through tampons and towels and the most awful tummy migraine the coils didn't work for me either they kept coming away with the bleeds. It's a nightmare.

I replaced dairy milk with soya milk a few years ago (before peri-menopause) because dairy is a migraine trigger for me. I also eat soya yoghurt and tofu. I have had zero hot flushes or night sweats in the four years I have been going through peri-menopause.

Mince is ground beef. It can also be ground lamb or ground pork, if specified. Without a qualifier, it usually refers to beef, though.
