Howdie from UK. Take no notice of misery guts. I get what you are doing. I did the very same thing on my allotment. I had awful soil that had been overworked and covered in plastic sheeting for years. I shoved down cardboard and covered in all sorts of organic material. I have lovely soil now. Now what do I do with the moles, pigeons, rabbits, munt jacks and slugs eh? 😁 Keep smiling.

Haters gonna hate! I love watching your videos and your view of life….Just keep being you!

Some of us live through you're dreams.. You've got a most wonderful property and personally I'm really jealous. To bad you're viewers can't be your neighbors ! We'd all join in 💜🌞🐝🌿🌱💜

I'm excited to see how it turns out. I'm feeling stressed as overwhelmed on how even to start ours.

  • at 2:15 am

Stress is terrible for our souls. I've watched you long enough I can see the exhausted look in your face. Hugs my dear friend. You have so many more people standing behind you. You've battled some tough battles, these chumps are NOTHIN!
They haven't seen when you had to deal with food insecurity, and why this is so important to you…ugh makes me so angry. You shouldn't even have to justify some freaking dirt and cardboard. Get a grip!

And if the neighbors are watching this; you need to take the time to truly learn about this family and what they do.
Grrr I kind of wish I could give your neighbors a couple of these bad boys👎👎

Chin up sweetie! You got this
These are just grown up bullies. What would you tell Selkie to do? You show her the best way to deal with people like this; I know it doesn't hurt any less. But you're NOT doing anything wrong!!!

    **Forgive my gramer :😜

Your neighbors have way too much free time on their hands and need to learn to live and let live. They should be learning from you instead of critisizing. Jealous neighbors.

  • at 3:43 am

We use cardboard in our garden, so you’re not weird. Your garden doesn’t even look ‘bad’ or ‘untidy’ or whatever they think it is. We’re on about 14 of an acre (which isn’t huge) and are planning on putting in more veggies, and some fruit trees. We have bees (a flow hive), and they are magical creatures for the garden. I honestly wish you were my neighbor, so I could ask you everything 😂😂

  • at 5:29 pm

Damn, it sounds like your neighbors are of the insufferable snooty sort. How unfortunate. Trust me, nothing you tell them will matter, they will continue on with their feigned confusion.

For what it’s worth, this internet stranger thinks what you’re doing is awesome! If I had the space, I’d be using your videos as a guide to do my own gardening.

  • at 8:47 pm

I love what your doing with your back yard. I’ve learned so much from you. Cooking, sustainable living, parenting, you name it. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

  • at 9:47 pm

I respect you Amber. I watch you every time I need motivation.

  • at 9:58 pm

I have tons of sourdough discard. How can I compost this without throwing away? Thanks.I have saved it in my refrigerator until I figure what to do.

  • at 2:56 am

I live just as close to my neighbors as you and my whole backyard is a garden while they just grow grass and they express their dislike for what I'm doing all the time. But I get food for my family and that's all that matters to me. Can't afford to move. You are awesome don't let those neighbors stop you.

  • at 7:14 am

Don’t get upset by your neighbours. It’s on them not you. What you do is great ❤️

  • at 11:57 am

    Such a cute family!!!!

  • at 12:00 pm

Amazing transformation!! You would make a fortune as a consultant those those of us that don't know where to start!!
I need to buy compost as a beginner and dont know what kind to buy!

  • at 10:49 pm

I totally get it with the neighbors not understanding. We have gotten several comments from people about when we are going to change our yard (if anything we are just going to add more veggies!). One literally said something like 'So when are you going to fix up your yard and compete with us?' WHHHHY??? Why does everything have to be a competition?? And I wouldn't even want their yard as it's overly manicured and has no space to play or grow food. We have a very small space but we love that we can grow a decent amount of produce with vertical planters and hydroponics. That's why I love coming online and seeing like minded people who just want to live simply and enjoy their time with their family. I really felt good last year though when we did get a comment from one neighbor that we should be in the neighborhood garden tour because we could show people how to grow food sustainably! I figure that the closed minded people just must not know how good home grown tomatoes taste!

  • at 12:52 pm

Omg Amber, your family are adorable. Living the dream! We've moved a lot and we've found that no matter what you do, there's always someone with a problem with what you do. Just keep on being you!

  • at 7:08 pm

I feel your pain. I know you guys want land and out of the suburban "yard" meanwhile I'm trying to just get a yard! I live in a condominium so I have to grow on a very small balcony and I have three raised beds in the yard at my parents house but I have to drive about 5 miles to their house to tend to it. But we do what we can with what we have right? I think the neighbors will regret their behavior because you won't be sharing your harvest with them 😉 I can only hold so much weight on my little balcony so I have one greenstalk and some smaller terra cotta pots for herbs. Never stop working on it!

im sorry you have envious neighbours keep on keeping on you are feeding your family good food nil carborundum sista dont let them grind you down xx

  • at 8:51 pm

good neighbours build strong tall fences x

  • at 11:40 am

  • at 6:13 pm

Make noise all hours of the night and keep trash all around your house? Perfeftly OK to a ton of people. Try to build better soil using things so they aren't wasted like you are doing? The horror! How dare you. 🙄 heaven forbid you don't do what your neighbor does.

  • at 2:19 pm

Ooooh how did you make the gf perogies??? Ignore your neighbours, they are not worth it! They will probably end up asking for your advise and help when they they see how amazing it looks when's it's done!

  • at 5:41 pm

We are doing a very similar project to you guys. Girl, you do your thing. Proud of you for keeping working toward your vision! Putting up a fence, good idea, we want to do that too. 🙂 People judge what they dont understand
